Hey Gazelles,
Here is a little insight into what the Gazelles have been getting done in their last week of running sessions. The Hunter Valley Crew have been a bit hit and miss in their sessions due to HSC exams and a bit of illness going around, but here is a breakdown of their week.
Monday - Easy runs (20-50mins) and strides, plus various strengths. This training run is usually complete on there own and how they feel.
Tuesday - Hill repeats - 2x10x100m Road Hill with a jog back aiming to hit a 3km rhythm. Both event groups hit this. This training session was lucky enough to have a Rocky/Australiana feel as two Kangaroos were having a boxing match in the background.
Wednesday - Todays training is similar to Monday
Thursday - Track Workout
800m Training Group - 3x150m at 800m Date pace with 30sec rest/50m walk, followed by 10x100m with 1min rest at the pace their 1st 400m of an 800m would go, followed by a 600m at 1500m date pace and the session was rounded out with 6x200m with 2mins rest working from 800m date pace to 800m goal pace.
3km/5km Training Group - Hit the start of this session the same with the 3x150m and the 10x100m however they moved into 6x300m with a 100m float. the effort in the 300m was around the 5km mark and the 100m was around 30sec. Some of the crew finished off with 4x400m with a 1-minute rest.
Friday - Rest - the most important training day of the week.
Saturday - Park Run - this training session is treated as a tempo followed by 6x200m with a 200m float. This run has several purposes: community and social aspects, self-control running to your predetermined pace and a little confidence builder as the crew becomes more controlled and relaxed. The 200m are just there to spin the wheels without exerting too much effort.
Sunday - Long Run - our group ranges from about 30mins to 80mins, nothing too strenuous in this training run, and should be mostly restorative. All in all, it was a fairly standard training week for our guys, although we are touching on a little more specific work than we would normally do this time of year, mostly to build towards All Schools at the end of September.
